Dr. Jeffrey C. Bird was recently named president of the East Central Region for IU Health, which includes IU Health Ball Memorial and Blackford hospitals, effective May 28, 2017.  Jeff’s experience and perspectives as a lifelong physician and resident of Muncie uniquely qualify him to lead the hospital.

In October 2014, Jeff was named chief operating officer (COO) in addition to his chief medical officer (CMO) duties at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.  In his COO duties, he oversees the cardiac service line, the orthopedic service line, integrated care management, trauma, and public relations/marketing.  In his CMO duties, he oversees the medical staff office, credentialing and recruitment of physicians, hospitalist program, academic affairs, information systems, and the BMH Physician Group service line.

Ball Memorial Hospital is a 375-bed, tertiary care referral center employing nearly 3,000 people.

Jeff leads a staff of more than 400 physicians representing forty-five medical specialties.

Prior to assuming the leadership role as COO and CMO, Jeff served the previous fourteen years as the associate director of the Ball Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program. Prior to that, he was owner of a thriving private practice of family medicine.

Jeff was born and raised in Muncie, graduated from DePauw University with a BA in Zoology in 1981, matriculated to the Indiana University School of Medicine, and graduated in 1986.  He then entered the Family Medicine Residency at Ball Memorial Hospital and served as chief resident of that nationally renowned program from 1988–89.

Jeff currently resides in Muncie with his wife of thirty-four years, Susan. He has four grown children and three grandchildren.
